What You Missed This Week in Video Games

"Game On" is The Fly's weekly recap of the stories powering up or beating down video game stocks.

NEW RELEASES: This week's major new game release is Electronic Arts' (EA) soccer sim "FIFA 23." The latest entry in one of the most popular game franchise worldwide launches September 30 for PC, Nintendo Switch (NTDOY), PlayStation 4 (SONY), PS5, Xbox One (MSFT), Xbox Series X/S, and Google Stadia (GOOGL). Also out this week is Microsoft's "Grounded," a survival video game that was first launched in early access in 2020. The game, developed by "The Outer Worlds" studio Obsidian, launches September 27 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

NEW NETFLIX STUDIO: Netflix (NFLX), which recently made its foray into the video game space, said yesterday that it plans to establish a new internal games studio in Helsinki, Finland. "I'm excited to announce that we are establishing an internal games studio in Helsinki, Finland, with Marko Lastikka as the studio director," said Amir Rahimi, VP of Game Studios at Netflix. "This is another step in our vision to build a world-class games studio that will bring a variety of delightful and deeply engaging original games - with no ads and no in-app purchases - to our hundreds of millions of members around the world. Why Helsinki? It is home to some of the best game talent in the world. This will be a games studio that we build from scratch, and our second games studio in Helsinki alongside Next Games, which became part of Netflix earlier this year."

TAKE-TWO: Last Wednesday, Take-Two (TTWO) subsidiary 2K Games said that an unauthorized third party illegally accessed the credentials of one of its vendors to the help desk platform that 2K uses to provide support to our customers. The unauthorized party sent a communication to certain players containing a malicious link, the company said. The game maker recommended that users who already clicked on the link reset any user account passwords; enable multi-factor authentication; install and run a reputable anti-virus program, and; check their account settings to see if any forwarding rules have been added or changed on their personal email accounts. The news came just days after Take-Two disclosed that someone had leaked footage from unreleased game "Grand Theft Auto VI" years ahead of the title's expected release.

LOGITECH HANDHELD: Last week, Logitech G, a brand of Logitech (LOGI), announced the company's entry into the game streaming space with the announcement of the launch of the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld, a purpose-built gaming device for cloud gaming. The new device includes precision gaming controls, a full 1080p HD screen, amazing battery life, and a lightweight, sleek form factor that enables players to enjoy libraries of PC and console games from the cloud in a fun, new way, the company said. The Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld was developed in partnership with Tencent Games (TCEHY) and supports cloud streaming from Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and NVIDIA GeForce NOW (NVDA). Players can also stream local games from an Xbox console with the Xbox app, their Steam games via SteamLink or download remote play apps, video streaming, and more via the Google Play Store. The Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld is expected to be available on LogitechG.com and at Amazon and Best Buy in North America in October of 2022 for a suggested retail price of $349.99.
